Cusco - Peru

The city of Cusco in southern Peru has a dramatic setting high in the Andean mountain range. It is the oldest city in the western hemisphere, and the capital of the Inca civilization. Best time of the year to go

The ideal time to visit Cusco is between June and October, with bright sunny days and moderate temperatures. Nevertheless, it can get rather chilly in the shade and at night temperatures drop considerably, so always keep warm clothes with you.

Between June and October, temperatures can drop to around 3ºC or lower at night. Generally speaking, Cusco's weather can get cold, but is rarely freezing. The average annual temperature is 12ºC.

June is a great time to visit as Cusco hosts the Inti Raymi or "Celebration of the Sun". This event is a reenactment of one of the most important Incan ceremonies, when the Inca Emperor would honor the Sun God, and implore him to grant abundant harvests and eradicate famine from the Empire.

Rainy Season

The dry season is from May to October and the rainy season from November to April. Generally, rainfall fluctuates between 600 to 880mm per year.

Most international flights arrive in Lima. The onward flight from Lima to Cusco takes approximately 70 minutes.
