Featured Destination of the Month (March ’10)

Argentina - Iguazú

Iguazu is one of the most impressive natural wonders in the Americas. No book, no photo and no film can transmit the sensation of seeing and hearing the thundering falls cascading down from the plateau high above. Boat trips, bridges and catwalks will enable your group to explore some of the 270 falls of Iguazu, some of which stretch to heights of over 70 meters, including the most impressive of all, La Garganta del Diablo (the Devil’s Throat). The biggest waterfalls are on Argentine territory, such as Dos Hermanas, Chico Alferez and Ramirez y Bossetti, while the Brazilian side offers splendid panoramic views. The roar of the falls contrasts with the tranquility of the surrounding National Park, where it is possible to catch a small train into the jungle and join various jungle paths which take you through the trees to suspended walkways around the falls. Every month the Iguazu National Park offers the opportunity for visitors to enjoy a nocturnal walk in the forest, walking through the trees to visit the great Devil’s Throat falls by moonlight. Located next to the waterfalls, on the Brazilian side, there is an outdoor centre where you can take part in various activities, such as rappel, rafting and tree climbing. Iguazu Falls is one of the world’s greatest waterfalls and an unparalleled opportunity for your group to experience a taste of the great South American wilderness.

Best time of the year to go

March to November is frequently considered the best time to visit Iguazu Falls, but there is no major reason not to visit at any time. The high season is January to February, when most Brazilians and Argentineans take vacations.

Weather

Maximum summer temperatures regularly climb above 35°C (95°F) before falling to 20-25°C (68-77°F) in the evenings. Winters (May to September) are slightly drier with lighter rainfall and milder temperatures ranging from 10-25°C (50-77°F).

Rain Season

The rainy season runs from January to March. This is when water flow increases and, the flora becomes more abundant. During the rest of the year the flow is reduced, but there are no major variations. There is no definite dry season in the area, and winters are never harsh.
